Grand testing of Bill Nanson, Master of wine
IRANCY and BOURGOGNE ALIGOTE celebrated
Posted on 06/01/2017
I sampled wine direct from the barrel for the first time in Autumn 1997 – in the village of Chardonnay – and even bought some recently bottled 1996s for my up-coming Christmas lunch, but for the next three years, I managed to average only 2 visits per year.
After moving to Switzerland for my job in 2000, I was able to travel to the region much more often as it was just 2h40 away in the car – if I was good – more like 2h30 if I was bad!
I eventually set up this website in 2002 – it was a hobby, to expand on some of the contributions I made to various online forums and to write the stories that I would have loved to read but couldn’t find – either in print or online – so I thought ‘Why not just do it myself?‘
About Domaine Felix :
- Bourgogne Aligoté 2015
Almost 40 year-old vines.
"Hmm, this is also very good – fresh fruit with a faint, sweet citrus. In the mouth this is much more tart after the last – mouth-watering, getting better as I become accustomed to it. Perhaps better to leave this as an apero – the acidity is to the fore – but the flavours are very lovely…"

- Bourgogne Côtes d’Auxerre Rosé 2014
"Medium pale. A certain floral sweetness to the aromas. This is fresh and lithe over the tongue – almost a little minerality and a lot of violet flowers. Certainly the most pronounced florality so far. Super wine."

- Saint-Bris 2013
"Fresh and more high-toned, I’d even go as far as to describe this as a pretty nose with some attractive sweet fruit notes. Silky, lithe, mineral with a growth of still silky mid-palate flavour and hint of salt. Super – very Burgundian and long finishing too!"

- Irancy La Grand Côte Est 2015
Medium-pale colour. Fresh and herby nose – faint redcurrant. A nice line of flavour here and an intensity that belies the colour. The fruit is quite good, inflected with a little herb. Okay…
